Zimbabwe is down, under and out. But the "West" insists to "help". Why? Charles Cohen reflects on an old problem.
A country in deep crisis
The murderous dicatator Robert Mugabe, acting in true African spirit, is supported by a majority of other African leaders.
Despite this scandalous fact, the West tries to help the country to avoid a humanitarian catastrophe. But why? Wouldn't be the correct way just to stay out and leave them to that what the Africans really want? Terror, dictatorship, clientel politics, corruption and power plays?
Development aid is just perpetuing the totally inacceptable situation in Zimbabwe as well as other African states. If the Africans can't support themselves, they should learn it. End the development aid. Of course, a total stop of arms delivery to any African state is necessary too. But in this aspect all the arms deliverer are only interested to make profit.
Africa, always complaining and asking for help, is down, under and out. They need to stand up for themselves. Since over 40 years the African governments failed to invest properly and bring their countries to prosperity. The easy tricky argument was: colonialism. It only helped to hide and overlook the "home made" catastrophe by power hungry warlords and dictators or deeply corrupt politicians who engaged in profitable business for their own concern - and not for their people.
As the BBc reports today (June 13, 08) , the UN calls for help for Zimbabwe.
But the best help would be a total isolation of Zimbabwe and other African states who suppress their people and entertain an inhuman regime. Help in these cases means collaboration with killers, torturers, murderers.
In February the BBC reported about Zimbabwean torture camps. Supporters of the dictator call this propaganda.
Zimbabwe's torture training camps
By Hilary Andersson
BBC Africa correspondent
President Robert Mugabe's government has set up secret camps across the country in which thousands of youths are taught how to torture and kill, the BBC has learned.
In YouTube one finds many videos on Zimbabwe. On current torture and political killings almost nothing. Since Mugabes police controls brutally the whole country, almost no tv news can get out.
These are media extracts following the arrests and torture of opposition and civic leaders involved with the Save Zimbabwe Campaign rally (11-13 March 2007).
But there are no violations of human rights, as South Africas president asserts. He and other leaders support the killer from Zimbabwe. In true African spirit. If someone protests about my wording ("African spirit") and denouncing my view as propaganda against an African country or an African leader, I ask, what kind of spirit guides the African leaders to support Mugabe? What kind of spirit enables them to have money for armament, weapenry but not for hospitals, schools, water supply and so on?
